Programming at ORCTV for Winter/Spring 2010 by Robert Chiarto
Old Rochester Community Television's programming continues to grow as we are receiving great response of late from both the school district and a variety of boards and committees in town government. Our loyal member producers have also been very busy bringing programs to viewers' homes while technology continues to open new avenues and possibilities to our ever expanding line-up.
In Marion and Rochester each of the towns' School Committees have been added to our government meeting coverage. We are grateful to both committees for their participation and have received a great deal of positive feedback with regards towards our covering these meetings.
Over the past few months tape has been rolling at a number of events around the school district. Regular coverage of plays, concerts, talent shows, sporting events and assemblies along with class projects and original programming have made the ETV channel an ever changing forum. Each week more classes, teachers and parents are taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by the ORCTV Educational Channel and we extend our thanks, again, to all who have made contributions to the channel. One of the highlights to recently cross the programming desk is a program titled 'Life After ORR' hosted by Jane McCarthy, Chairwoman of the Marion School committee. This program will feature discussions with former Old Rochester students as they relate their experiences as they enter college, the workforce and the adult world after leaving the ORR school district.
Regular programming contributions continue to be submitted from member producers. The Marion Art Center and the Tri-Town Business Association have been making monthly installments of their respective series over the last six or so months with each providing engaging talk show formatted programs featuring many of your Tri-Town friends and neighbors. Don Cuddy continues with his mission of collecting oral histories with his Neighbor to Neighbor program as he documents the stories and lives of some of the most interesting residents from in around the Tri-Town area. We also must thank the First Congregational Church of Rochester who have been providing us with a recording of their weekly church service for over three years now. All of these undertakings are contributed on a volunteer basis and we thank each producer for their time and effort.
ORCTV has received recognition from a number of programs that we broadcast each week either on air or via the producer's websites. Weekly Politics with David Pakman mentioned ORCTV on the air recently and we have been included in the content of the web-sites for Penny Dreadful's Shilling Shockers, Midnite Mausoleum and Gardening Rhythms among others as these producers refer viewers to ORCTV via the internet as an outlet for their programs.
Several new programs have become personal favorites of mine for both their production quality and the interesting topics and content being covered by the shows. Expedition New England and Kids a Cooking air each Saturday morning engaging our younger viewers through science and cooking in very entertaining weekly episodes that can be fun and informative for the entire family. Another Saturday morning show, NASA 360 comes directly to us from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This program sheds light on the many ways the NASA has affected our every day live through their technology and innovation. All three of these programs are repeated at various times each week and we encourage viewers to check our website and the Wanderer each week for air times.
