ORCTV in 2011

2011 has been another successful year for ORCTV. Our programming has expanded locally as well as in programs selected from all over the world to inspire, entertain and fulfill the needs and desires of the tri town residents. Members have taken off with local shows this past year. We have many locally produced studio shows taped monthly at our Captain Hadley House studio. These include; Robbi Around Town, Navigating the Way for Seniors, House Calls, Nonprofit Highlights, Education Matters and Upper Cape Tech.  We also have several members who produce field shoots with camcorders and have really taken to editing.  It has been wonderful to watch their skills develop into well crafted productions. ORCTV staff continues with regular classes in camcorder, editing and studio production.  This year we have seen an increase in tours through the studio. Our tours are not a simple walk through- we have had many large youth groups including Cub Scouts come in and have quick lessons in studio and then produce small news pieces. These tours give a great first introduction to ORCTV and video production for young people.  ORCTV also covered many community events such as Memorial Day, 4th of July, summer events, Veterans Day, Halloween and Christmas to name a few.

ORCTV has had its best attendance yet for our spring and fall Public Service Announcement shoot days. Organizations come in to have a 1-5 minute piece produced for them about their organization. This has always been popular but 2011 has provided our highest attendance yet. Also high in attendance has been our favorite Holiday Greeting week. Anyone can come in to have a greeting taped. In 2011 ORCTV and The Showstoppers held our 3rd Annual LIVE TV Telethon with over 60 acts involved including local singers, musicians, Irish Step dancers and more!

ORCTV has continued with its Education TV or ETV grant to the school department. Our grant pays for teachers to teach Video Journalism and Intro to TV classes at the high school. It also provides outreach to all the schools in the district as well as equipment for each school to produce programs at their location.  Programs produced have included; concerts, classroom projects, PSAs, graduation and holiday concerts to name a few.

ORCTV continues to run the Government access for Marion and Rochester. This includes all Selectmen meetings, Planning Board and School Committee meetings. We also cover Town Meetings, candidate forums and special committee meetings as requested. ORCTV additionally offers candidate spots during the election season. Candidates give a 5 minute presentation about their candidacy which then plays on the local channels up to the election.
ORCTV continues to enjoy providing local access to programs, channels, classes, facility and equipment to the tri town community. In 2012 we hope to purchase some new equipment especially camcorders as we want to be a resource with up to date equipment. We hope to have even more studio and field shows being produced so call us with your ideas!
