ORCTV in 2010
In 2010, ORCTV has really developed its programs and services to the towns. We continued with our public, education and government access agendas. Our facility and field equipment use has expanded with more residents producing programs both outside and inside the studio. Regular monthly shows are produced by organizations such as Tri Town Business Association, Upper Cape Tech and Community Nurse & Hospice. ORCTV has also produced its own internal monthly shows Nonprofit Highlights and Inside ORCTV. We continued producing special events in the tri towns such as Memorial Day events, 4th of July, Harbor Days, Country Fair, Halloween, Veterans Day events and holiday happenings. ORCTV also completed its 2nd Annual LIVE TV Telethon. We partnered with the youth signing organization The Showstoppers and had a 4 hour live entertainment that included the singers as well as the general public.
Other public access programming includes Art Works, several events from Women's Center, Don Cuddy's History Projects, Ernestina project, Grand Fishing forum, Harpoon Harmonizers, Marion Art Center Musical Theater, Marion Natural History Museum, Mattapoisett Road Race, Old Colony Info Video, Rochester Road Race to name a few. ORCTV held its community Public Service Announcement shoots in the spring and fall with our best turnout yet- 45 spots. We also held our annual Holiday Greetings with residents, organizations and businesses all giving a greeting.
For education access, ORCTV continued with its grant to the schools to run ETV, which includes classes taught to high school students and outreach to all schools in the district. This outreach helps students and teachers develop programming for the channels from classes, after school activities and more. ORCTV also did an after school/half day camp for kids from the junior and high school. Kids came to ORCTV and learned all aspect of video production. There programs played on the access channels. We also held our school vacation and summer youth camps as well as added one in conjunction with the Mattapoisett Bay Club. There camps are more intensive production training and producing. We had a couple interns this year- one from college and one from high school. Both were great additions to the office and learned and produced some wonderful pieces. ORCTV also began production of a monthly Mattapoisett School Committee educational series.
Government access has been busy this year for Marion and Rochester. ORCTV has continued with its regular coverage of Selectmen, Planning Board and School Committee Meetings. We also have covered Town Meetings, Zoning Board, Housing Authority, school regionalization meetings and 40B hearings. Then we covered political season with warrant reviews, candidate forums, candidate running for office spots locally and state representative spots in the fall elections.
It has been a great year for ORCTV. We are encouraged by residents coming in to learn the equipment and produce programs. We enjoy having youth here turning ideas into shows. We have had great feedback from the community. We look forward to continuing with our programs and services for future years.
